CASE STUDY: Hot Topic - The Corporate Office
Objective
To create an office environment illuminating the Hot Topic brand, a company concept based on the theory that music is one of the primary influences of teen fashion.
Result
Located in City of Industry, California, Hot Topic’s corporate office is a high-energy juxtaposition of artwork, passion for product, environments filled with multi-media sound and video, all housed in a former warehouse within an industrial park.
Design Elements
- The receptionist desk - an antique 1920s autopsy table - is dwarfed by a 27-foot high Gothic Revival altar, where video monitors occupy spaces where well-and-lesser known saints might have previously stood
- The Family Room area is highlighted by a full performance stage, which doubles as the corporate boardroom, putting the decisions of management “under the spotlight” in both a real and symbolic way
- The Family Room’s shabby chic furniture and oversized rugs offer the perfect setting for weekly corporate meetings to take place, while the area also doubles as a merchandise presentation area
- Thematic conference rooms range from the “Operating Room” where an all white tile and stainless steel room is graced by backlit “patient x-ray” art, to the Moroccan room with its oriental rugs and authentic chandeliers setting a mood right out of 1001 Nights
